The '''Drive Engine''' is a module on the [[Icarus]] that enables flight. Icarus has no flight capabilities (other than a very weak hover to avoid falling into water) out of the box, and they must be acquired by upgrading the Drive Engine. The first upgrade enable Icarus to fly around the starter planet's atmosphere, with further upgrades enabling spaceflight and eventually faster-than-light travel.
Although the warp drive (FTL speed) isn't unlocked until level 4, interstellar travel is made possible at level 2, should the player be okay with slow-boating it to another star (upgrade level 3, which doubles space travel speed, is ideal for this). The top speeds for drive engine levels 3 and 4 are 1.5 ly/hr and 3 ly/hr, respectively, while warp speed is on the order of 1 lightyear every 4 to 5 seconds.

Summary

The Drive Engine is a module on the Icarus that enables flight.

Once a high enough altitude is reached, the mech can leave the atmosphere and travel to other planets.
Consumes energy even faster than flying.
