Stars get their names assigned by random at the moment when the cluster is generated, following some rules according to the star types.

Main-Sequence Stars, White Dwarves and Giant Stars may get their names from one of the two fixed lists, one for the Generic Stars and White Dwarves and another for the Giants. For the most of these names there is a star existing in the real world, but the in-game star does not have to correspond its real-life counterpart in the spectral class or other paramters.

Main-Sequence Stars, White Dwarves and Giant Stars may also get their names according to the Bayer designation, i.e. a Greek letter or a number followed by the Latin name of the constellation in the genitive case.

Giants can also get their names formed from a literal prefix followed by a decimal code. The prefix generally corresponds to the one used in an existing star catalogue.

Neutron Stars and Black Holes are always named with the with the literal prefix and the decimal code.

Below, the ITALICIZED letters are variables. See notes for clarifications.
