The Information Matrix is one of the five basic source codes that keeps the CentreBrain simulating. It is needed for high-tech research and upgrades, notably the Mecha Core Mk.IV upgrade and the Gravity Matrix research.

Producing information matrices requires industrial amounts of silicon (10 High-Purity Silicon, and thus 20 Silicon Ore, per matrix), which cannot be sourced on the starter planet.
