Summary
The Advanced Mining Machine is the late-game alternative to the regular Mining Machine, offering both higher mining speed and better vein coverage. Unlike regular Mining Machines, the Advanced Mining Machines' mining field cannot overlap with each other, although they can overlap with regular Miners' fields.
The baseline mining speed of an Advanced Mining Machine is 60 per vein, twice as fast as the basic one. Additionally, the Advanced Mining Machine's field is large enough to easily cover an entire vein cluster at once. Like the basic Mining Machine, the number of veins covered does not affect energy consumption, which ends up making the Advanced Mining Machine more energy-efficient as well; covering an entire cluster only takes 1 Advanced Mining Machine but could take 5 or 6 basic ones.
The Advanced Mining Machine also has 2 features the basic one does not. First, it has a slider that allows the player to manually increase its mining speed up to 300% of the baseline, although this will greatly increase the energy required. Second, it contains an internal storage similar to a Planetary Logistics Station with a base capacity of 5000 items (increased by 1000 per level of the Logistics Carrier Capacity upgrade) that can be set to Supply or Storage mode. Setting this to Supply allows Logistics Drones to pick up items from the Advanced Mining Machine, but as a result Advanced Mining machines cannot be built near Logistics Stations.
On top of all these improvements over the basic Mining Machine, the Advanced Mining Machine also has 9 conveyor belt outputs instead of 1. When using Conveyor Belts Mk.III, up to 16200 items can be unloaded per minute. The Logistics Station Integrated Logistics upgrade also allows the Advanced Mining Machine to output stacked cargo, raising that limit to a whopping 64800 items per minute at the upgrade's maximum level.

Gathering Speed Slider
Gathering speed can be set as low as 100% (the normal speed) and as high as 300%, in increments of 10% at a time.
The power consumption increases by the multiplier squared. For instance, 200% mining speed results in 2.0^2 = 4 times the power consumption.
Speed multiplier | 100% | 150% | 200% | 250% | 300% |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Power consumption | 2.94 MW (100%) |
6.615 MW (225%) |
11.76 MW (400%) |
18.375 MW (625%) |
26.46 MW (900%) |
The gathering speed multiplier stacks multiplicatively with the speed bonus from the Veins Utilization upgrade.
Output Cargo Stack Count (Slider) & Use Tech Limit (Checkbox)
These options are unlocked with the Logistics Station Integrated Logistics upgrade. It allows Logistics Stations and Advanced Mining Machines to output cargo to the belts in stacks instead of 1 at a time, similar to the stacks formed by the Automatic Piler. When the checkbox is set, the slider is locked and the amount of cargo in stacks is equal to the maximum possible allowed by the upgrade. Otherwise, the player can set the stack count at which the cargo gets unloaded, between 1 and the current tech limit.
Player Tips & Tricks
While the Advanced Mining Machine's mining speed is a welcome luxury, keep in mind that veins will be depleted considerably faster than with basic Mining Machines. Be prepared to set up new mining facilities on other planets.
Normal Mining Machines can be placed on the same cluster as the Advanced Mining Machine and put their output directly into the Advanced Mining Machine's storage.
