In the early game it's possible to use very few Tesla Towers by powering buildings and connecting grids directly with Wind Turbines instead. While the Wind Turbines soon become cumbersome to fit into larger and more compact factories, they can still be used to connect them into a single power grid.
The Wireless Power Tower connects at a longer length with other power transmission buildings and the Satellite Substation supplies a larger area with power, but both of them consume power themselves while the Tesla Tower does not.
While Wireless Power Towers have greater connection distance than Tesla Towers, their much greater resource and idle energy costs mean that in most circumstances, it is cheaper in both resources and energy to use more Tesla Towers to make a connection than a smaller number of Wireless Power Towers.
